Empat belas kartu kuning, dan satu kartu merah dikeluarkan oleh wasit Howard Webb dalam pertandingan final yang mempertemukan Spanyol dan Belanda di Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg, Senin (12/7) kemarin. Dan meski dihujat oleh sejumlah pemain dan suporter Belanda sebagai biang keladi kekalahan Tim Oranye, wasit asal Inggris ini mengaku puas dengan performanya di lapangan ketika itu.

“Dalam pertandingan apapun, kita selalu berharap wasit tidak perlu terlalu banyak terlibat. Meskipun kadang-kadang kita memang wajib untuk bersikap keras untuk mengendalikan jalannya pertandingan. Kami (Webb dan tim wasitnya) merasa tidak memiliki pilihan lain selain mengatur jalannya laga (final) kemarin dengan cara yang telah kami lakukan. Kami merasa puas dengan apa yang telah kami capai dalam laga tersebut. Ini merupakan pertandingan yang sangat sulit dikendalikan, dan saya rasa hal ini berlaku bagi wasit manapun. Ini akan menjadi salah satu laga terberat yang pernah kami jalani dan kami merasa kami telah bekerja keras untuk menjaga fokus pada sportivitas dalam sepakbola,” aku Webb.

Para pemain timnas Belanda melakukan sejumlah pelanggaran berat dalam pertandingan tersebut dan cukup beruntung karena pada babak pertama, gelandang Nigel de Jong tidak langsung dikartumerah oleh wasit Webb karena pelanggaran berbahanya terhadap Xabi Alonso. Meskipun bersikap longgar dalam beberapa insiden, performa Webb tetap saja membuat marah Tim Oranye, karena usai meniup peluit berakhirnya pertandingan, Webb langsung dikerubuti beberapa pemain Belanda yang menganggapnya berat sebelah dalam laga tersebut.

Sementara itu Mike Riley, manajer umum Professional Game Match Officials, badan penyedia wasit bagi Liga Premier, justru memuji penampilan wasit dan mencecar Belanda dan Spanyol karena tidak menghormati aturan main dalam sepakbola di laga tersebut. “Partai final kemarin pastinya akan menjadi salah satu partai terberat yang pernah dijalani Webb,” ujar Riley. “Dalam beberapa insiden sepanjang pertandingan para pemain tidak menunjukkan rasa hormat terhadap wasit dan semangat fair play. Meskipun berbagai tantangan yang muncul, Howard (Webb) dan timnya telah menunjukan performa luar biasa. Kita seharusnya berterima kasih karena laga sesulit laga final kemarin diwasiti oleh offisial yang memiliki pengalaman dan ketenangan seperti Howard Webb,” lanjutnya lagi (CHR/Socerrnet)
